Anthropic Geography

The municipal area of Perledo extends over a very large area and includes the following hamlets: Bologna, Cestaglia, Gisazio, Gittana, Riva di Gittana, Regoledo, Regolo, Tondello (where Casa Valeria is located), Vezio, Olivedo, Portone, Panighetto.

Quarries

Once upon a time, in the hamlet of Regolo, a quarries was active, from which marble blocks were extracted: “Nero di Varenna”, of an intense black color and very compact. The black color is due to the fact that the original material, rich in organic remains deriving especially from phytoplankton, is deposited in an underwater environment devoid of oxygen in the form of sludge in slow putrefaction (sapropelite).

Fossils

There are many findings of fossil in the area. At the end of the 19th century fossils of fish were found, from which Perleido (gen. Perleidus), a genus of extinct fish belonging to the class of actinotterigi. Given the importance and copiousness of the Perledo findings and more generally the Grigne area is the subject of scientific studies by the University of Milan.

Mule Tracks

The entire municipal territory of Perledo is crossed by mule tracks, pedestrian paths that join the various hamlets, crossing woods and countryside. The typical architecture of mule tracks consists of a smooth rock pavement flanked by dry stone walls made by stones founded on the site.

I Crotti (typical tavern)

They are the characteristic taverns of Lake Como. These are ambients derived in part from natural ravines (the name is a dialectal variant of a cave), which were once used as cold rooms for food storage. Subsequently, to the side or above the caves, spaces were built used as halls and transformed into taverns. Today, some are still functioning and remaining faithful to their rustic soul, with a unique charm, they are ideal for immersing in the culinary tradition of the territory.
